The Experimental Psychology Conference (EPC) was held in a hybrid format from 9th – 11th April 2021. EPC is an annual conference run by The Australasian Experimental Psychology Society. In a first for this conference, presenters and attendees were able to attend either in person at the University of Queensland’s St. Lucia Campus or online via Zoom. Specific satellite sites were set up in each major city in Australia, and in Auckland, New Zealand. Members of our lab presented talks at the satellite site at the University of Adelaide.
For some of our lab members, it was their first time presenting at a conference. Catherine Keeping, Nadine Stirling, and Erin Simister all presented their Honours projects from 2020. All of our first-time presenters found EPC to be a friendly and supportive environment to share their research.
We also had some more experienced members of our lab present a talk. Lucy Matson discussed some of her early PhD findings relating to disgust, Victoria Bridgland presented her recent findings regarding trigger warnings, and Dr Deanne Green presented her work on the boundary extension effect. Our very own Dr Ella Moeck also presented some of her recent work with the FEEL Lab at the satellite site at the University of Melbourne.
We thank Professor Derek Arnold and the team at the University of Queensland for hosting this year’s conference, and Professor Anna Ma-Wyatt for organising the satellite site at the University of Adelaide. We hope to return to in-person conferences soon, but in the meantime, we are happy that researchers from all over Australasia were still able to gather to talk about their ideas in Experimental Psychology
